no one should be told where to go and find news.  but the more variety of sources, the better.  following are a few ideas for thought...

www.harpers.org - check out the monthy index and weekly update. 

www.thenation.com - they also have some good blogs

www.nytimes.com, www.washingtonpost.com, www.bbc.co.uk - for basic info

www.cnn.com (don't forget they have an international section which often has vastly different leading stories)

www.lemonde.fr, www.lefigaro.fr, if you speak french, www.guardian.co.uk, www.independent.co.uk, if you don't

www.reuters.com - good basic info, business perspective, and their "oddly enough" section is fun for kooky stories.
